What Nano Banana is good at

Nano Banana is the name Google's Gemini image models picked up, and it stuck because the models are good at something unglamorous and useful: changing one thing in a picture without disturbing the rest. Upload a photo, write "make it night" or "add a red scarf", and you get the same scene with that one change.

That makes it the natural tool for small, iterative jobs. Try a product on three backgrounds, remove a stray object from a holiday shot, turn a sketch into something presentable, or keep adjusting an image step by step until it's right. It also makes new images from text, and it's quick about it.

Nano Banana 2.1 is the newest version and the cheapest per image, so it's the default on LazySusan. A 1K image costs 41 tokens. When you need the most detail, Nano Banana Pro is there for the final version.

Where it's less suited: long passages of exact text, and briefs with a dozen elements that all have to land in precise positions. It will try, but GPT Image or Ideogram are the safer bets there, and both sit one click away in the same workspace.

tips

Getting better results

  1. 01Make one change per edit. "Add a red scarf" and then "make it snow" usually beats asking for both at once.
  2. 02Say what should stay the same when it matters: "keep her face and the pose unchanged".
  3. 03Work at 1K and only render the keeper at 2K or 4K. A 4K image on Nano Banana 2.1 is 136 tokens against 41 tokens at 1K.
  4. 04Pick the shape before you start. Nano Banana offers 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3 and 3:4, and changing it later means a new image.
