What Ideogram is good at

Most image models treat text as decoration and get it roughly right. Ideogram treats it as content. Ask for a travel poster that reads "Visit Lake Tahoe" or a birthday card that says "Happy 40th, Dana" and the letters are where you asked, spelled as you wrote them, in a style that suits the design.

That makes it the tool for anything that will be read: event posters, social graphics with a headline, labels, menus, logo concepts with a name in them. A long list of style presets, from Art Deco to travel poster to woodblock print, gives a design a direction before you've written much of a prompt.

The aspect ratios go well beyond the usual square and widescreen, from tall 1:3 banners to wide 3:1 headers, so a design can be made at the shape it will actually be used rather than cropped afterwards.

Ideogram is more than a generator on LazySusan. Remix makes a new take on an image you have, Edit repaints an area you brush over, Background swaps what's behind the subject, Reframe extends an image to a new shape, Upscale enlarges it, and Describe turns any picture into a prompt you can reuse.

tips

Getting better results

  1. 01Put every word you want printed in quotes. Anything outside quotes is treated as description, not copy.
  2. 02Keep the text short. A headline and a line of detail come out cleaner than a paragraph.
  3. 03Turn magic prompt off when you've written exactly what you want. Left on, Ideogram adds its own detail to your prompt.
  4. 04Explore on Turbo at 30 tokens an image, then rerun the winning prompt and seed on Quality.
  5. 05Use Describe on a design you admire to get a prompt you can adapt.
